What is eFoiling?
eFoiling is like riding a magic carpet above water! You stand on an electric hydrofoil board that uses a wing-shaped foil to lift you above the water’s surface. A whisper-quiet electric motor provides propulsion, and you control the speed with a handheld Bluetooth remote.

eFoiling, also known as electric hydrofoiling, is an exciting water sport that combines the thrill of surfing with cutting-edge electric technology. At Opua Adventures, eFoiling offers a unique experience where riders glide smoothly above the water’s surface on a specially designed board powered by an electric motor.
How Does eFoiling Work?
An eFoil board is equipped with a hydrofoil—a wing-like structure mounted on a mast beneath the board—that lifts the rider above the water as the board gains speed. The electric motor, controlled by a handheld wireless remote, powers a propeller attached to the hydrofoil. When the motor is engaged, it propels the board forward, allowing the hydrofoil to generate lift and elevate the rider above the water, reducing drag and enabling a smooth, almost silent ride.
The rider controls speed and direction with the remote, making eFoiling accessible to beginners while still offering a thrilling experience for advanced riders. Because the board hovers above the water, riders experience less resistance and can enjoy a unique sensation of flight over the waves.

Not at all! eFoiling is one of the easiest water sports to pick up, even if you’ve never tried surfing or wakeboarding. The electric motor gives steady power, making it easier to balance and ride. At Opua Adventures in Sarasota, many of our guests learn to “fly above the water” in their very first session. No experience? No problem!

Yes, but you should feel comfortable in the water with a life vest. Our instructors are trained in water safety, and we stay in shallow, calm areas during lessons. Seabobs are especially great for those less confident in open water.

Falling is part of learning and actually quite fun! The water around Sarasota is warm and beautiful. You’ll be wearing a life jacket for safety, and our instructors are always nearby. The eFoil automatically stops when you fall, and getting back on is easy with practice.

We operate in beautiful locations around Sarasota Bay, primarily at New Pass and Bird Key. These locations offer crystal clear waters, stunning views, and perfect conditions for learning. The exact location is provided the night before or day of your adventure based on weather and water conditions.

Our eFoil adventures are 90 minutes total, which includes beach instruction, water training, and independent flying time. This gives you plenty of time to learn the basics and experience the thrill of flying above water.
We closely monitor Sarasota weather and will contact you if conditions aren’t ideal. You’ll have the option to reschedule or receive a full refund—your choice. Safety always comes first.
