Perhaps you’ve seen someone riding on the water, giving you the impression they were flying. If that piques your curiosity, and you’d like to learn more, then we have a quick tutorial on this novel way to surf around the shores of Sarasota. What is an eFoil?

This is an electric hydrofoil board, comprising a mast/wing attached to a board, which enables you to “fly” across water. Of course, while it looks like flight, to the untrained eye, it’s actually an electric device that propels the rider above the water.

Best of all, this battery-powered equipment doesn’t drain as fast as e-surfboards or other items. You can often get at least two hours of fun from them before having to re-charge.

How Do You Ride an eFoil Board?

First, the best way to learn how to rid an eFoil is to schedule a session with our friendly staff, who will show you how to master it. We always recommend doing this before buying your own model (plus, it gives you awesome discounts once you buy your own).

The actual riding technique takes a little while to master, but it’s doable for teenagers and adults. Always begin your adventure by equipping the right safety gear (vest and helmet). Then, select a power level for your board (start with the lowest setting if you are brand new).

When you’re ready to get on the board, begin by laying on it like a boogie board, allow it to build speed slowly, and get a feel for it. Then, you can stand on it with both feet; finding a comfortable foot position is key. From there, you’ll be on your first eFoil flight, where you can practice balancing, experiment with the throttle, and practice until you get the hang of it.

What is eFoil?

This is a watersports activity, which allows the participant to “fly above the water” thanks to an electric-powered board through the device’s mast and wing. It’s not an effortless experience, but with a little practice, you’ll be able to balance the board and practically levitate across Florida waters.

There are different varieties of eFoil boards, but the basic concept involves a 28-inch mast beneath the bulk of the board, while you ride by standing on top. Participants should wear a safety vest and helmet, just in case you slip or lose balance while out on the water. As long as the sea conditions aren’t too rocky, all you have to do is dress appropriately for water activity, and we’ll show you how it’s done.

How Fast is an eFoil?

This is one of the most popular questions. Our models run on a sturdy, 120-volt battery, which lasts about two hours, giving it enough power to cruise across the ocean at 30 mph.

By comparison, most jet skis hit a max speed of about 60 or 70 mph, but only with a lot more machinery to do so. eFoil boards allow you to have the fastest possible watersports fun with the least amount of equipment.
